When you walk near a slope, you may notice a rectangular plate on it. This plate is the “identity card” of the slope and it contains a unique slope registration number and information such as the department responsible for its maintenance. The Geotechnical Engineering Office of the Civil Engineering and Development Department has maintained records of man-made slopes in Hong Kong in its Catalogue of Slopes. To date, there are about 60,000 sizeable man-made slopes in the Catalogue and two thirds of them (i.e. about 40,000) are government slopes.

When you make an enquiry or file a report about a slope, it will greatly facilitate location of the specific slope if you can provide the slope registration number.
