Why do I receive the statutory notice for Mandatory Window Inspection from the Buildings Department? What should I do and when do I need to complete the requirements?

Buildings Department

Buildings aged 10 years or above (except domestic buildings not exceeding 3 storeys) are subject to the Mandatory Window Inspection Scheme (MWIS). Each year, the Buildings Department (BD) selects target buildings and sends statutory notices for mandatory window inspection to the owners by registered mail. Upon receipt of the statutory notice, owners are required to, within a specified time, appoint a Qualified Person to inspect all the windows within the concerned premises,  supervise any necessary repair works and submit the specified form after the inspection and repair.

 Time limit in general
(from the date of the statutory notice)
Windows of individual premisesWithin 6 months
Windows of common parts of a building (irrespective of whether there is an Owners' Corporation)Within 9 months

You can search on BD’s website for the MWIS notices and compliance status of buildings and individual premises.
