What information will be displayed on an electronic driving licence (eDL)? If I renew my driving licence (DL) or there is any change in the particulars of the licence, is it necessary to inform the Transport Department (TD) of the eDL update separately?

Transport Department

Information to be deplayed on electronic driving licence (eDL) include:

  • The information on an physical driving licence (DL), including the name of the licence holder, driving entitlement(s), driving licence number, validity period and system encrypted QR code; and
  • The status of DL (i.e. whether it is valid) as listed below:

eDL colorStatus of DL
BlueValid (All type(s) of DL(s) being held are valid)
YellowPartially valid (Simultaneously holding valid DL(s) of certain type(s) and expired DL(s) of another type)
RedExpired (All type(s) of DL(s) being held are expired)

If you renew your DL or there is any change in the particulars of the DL, you do not have to inform the TD of the eDL update(s) separately. When the licence holder submits to the TD an application for licence renewal or change in licence particulars, the relevant information in the TD’s licensing system will be updated instantly upon completion of the application, and the particulars displayed on the eDL will also be updated automatically and synchronously.
