How can I support to monitor the conditions of trees?
Greening, Landscape & Tree Management Section, Development BureauTo promote community involvement in tree risk management to better protect public safety, the Tree Management Office (TMO) under Greening, Landscape and Tree Management Section of Development Bureau has uploaded the Tree Register to provide information on the following categories of trees:
- Important trees that are subject to regular monitoring including all Old and Valuable Trees (OVT) and Stone Wall Trees (SWT);
- Tree infested by Brown Root Rot Disease (BRRD) that require necessary treatment and monitoring.
- Problematic trees identified in the annual Tree Risk Assessment exercise that require continuous monitoring.
If you find any trees with abnormalities, such as:
- Pests and Diseases
- Improper cabling, supporting system
- Leaning
- Dieback twigs
- Hanger
- Branch / V-shaped crotch with cracks or split
- Wood decay or cavity in trunks
- Severely cut or damaged roots
- Fungal fruiting bodies
(For common tree problems, please refer to website of Greening, Landscape and Tree Management (GLTM) Section, Development Bureau.)
you can report the case to us by completing the online form or via 1823 Mobile App to facilitate the responsible departments to take actions. When reporting problematic trees, please remember to -
- provide information about the tree's location, e.g. street name, street number, the nearby lamp post number or slope registration number, etc.
- clearly explain the tree's condition, e.g. Are there any tree cavities? Is the tree slanting seriously? Is the tree decayed?
- specify the facilities around the tree, if any, e.g. tree pit, irrigation faucet, tree fences, etc.
- leave your contact information for follow-ups.
If the tree with the above problems is within your property, you should arrange for a professional to conduct full investigations on the tree involved, lest lives or properties be threatened by collapses caused by a lack of proper care.
