To be qualified as a registered electrical contractor, an applicant must –
- employ at least one registered electrical worker; or
- if the applicant is an individual, he/she must be a registered electrical worker; or
- if the applicant is a partnership, at least one of the partners must be a registered electrical worker.
The procedures for application are listed below. Renewal applications must be made at least 1 month before and no earlier than 4 months before the expiry date.

The application fee is $855. The paid application fee will not be refunded regardless of the result of application. |

(Cheques, Draft and Cashier Orders should be made payable to the ‘The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’ and crossed. If an application is made online, please send the crossed cheque, draft, cashier orders to EMSD by post.) |

How to obtain the certificate |
Through registered mail to the correspondence address of the applicant |
After successful registration, a registered electrical contractor should display in a prominent place at his/her principal place of business the original certificate of registration. A copy of the certificate issued by the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services should also be displayed at each of his/her other places of business.
