Which countries or places accept the International Driving Permit issued in Hong Kong (in alphabetical order)?
Transport DepartmentIDP is issued in accordance with the International Convention Concluded at Geneva on 19 September 1949 ("1949 Convention"). The permit should be valid in the territory of all the Contracting States to the 1949 Convention for the driving of vehicles included in the category or categories mentioned in the permit issued.
Applicants should note that different contracting countries/ places may have particular requirements or conditions, which may be updated from time to time, for the use of an IDP (for example, some contracting countries/ places may require IDP holder to use the IDP together with his/her Hong Kong physical full driving licence). Applicants should consider making enquiries to the Consulates or resident offices in Hong Kong of the countries/ places concerned regarding their driving requirements and conditions for use of the IDP before making an application for IDP or before driving in the countries/ places concerned.

Points to note:
- If the countries/places (including Mainland and Macau) where you intend to visit do not allow holders of IDP issued in Hong Kong to drive, please contact the Consulates or resident offices of the countries/places concerned for further enquiry.
- For driving in Mainland and Macau, please call the enquiry hotline of Transport Department at 2804 2600 (This hotline is handled by 1823 Call Centre).
