The vehicle licence fees for electric private cars will be adjusted from 1 Nov onwards. Can I renew the vehicle licence at the pre-adjustment rate?
Transport DepartmentThe Government will revise the licence fees for electric private cars from 1 Nov 2025 onwards (please click here for details). To prevent owners of electric private cars from rushing to the TD's Licensing Offices to submit applications for the renewal of vehicle licences, the TD will implement special licence renewal arrangement as follows:
Electric private cars with vehicle licences expire on or before 28 Feb 2026
- The vehicle owner can renew his/her vehicle licence at the pre-adjusted licence fee if he/she submits the renewal application on or before 28 Feb 2026.
- The vehicle owner will need to pay the adjusted licence fee if the licence renewal application is submitted on or after 1 Mar 2026 (i.e. renew an expired vehicle licence). (For details on the calculation of licence fee for an expired vehicle licence, please click here.)
For licence renewal applications submitted through drop-in box / by post, the date of application will be determined by the submission date / postmark. For online applications, the date of application will be in accordance with the system time when the application is successfully submitted.
Electric private cars with vehicle licences expire on or after 1 Mar 2026
The vehicle owner should renew his/her vehicle licence at the licence fee after the adjustment no matter when he/she submits the renewal application.
